All though I have lived my entire life in Holland, I too am 'not from here'. I am belgian, born in Knokke on November 12 1979. Sander always jokes about my age. About me being so young and all. That, when I was still in dipers, he was already attending his first lectures in university... He knows those jokes annoy me. Together with Paulien, Sander and Henk created about ten dynamic portraits of different kinds of groups of people: visitors of a cinema or bathhouse or colleagues from work. Those who were not born in the Netherlands were asked to raise their hand to distinguise them from the rest of the group. Sander asked me and Vero to help him out with this project, since we both are 'not from here'. One night Vero and I were asked to show up at the Kriterion, a smaller cinema somewhere outside the center of Amsterdam. It was there where Sander Paulien and Henk were making another group portrait. Together with some Dutch boys and girl, an Indian man and some others, we were sitting in the upstairs room doing what we were told, to raise our hand whenever Henk, who did all the filming, gave his sign. And since we had to hurry, a real movie was about to start soon, we only did two or three takes. Later they told me I did really well, 'cos I just looked so bored. (BdB)
